From o-tourism to a-tourism
Buzzwords play a crucial role in our public discussions today, shaping conclusions and positions even before we fully understand the details of an issue. As tourism expands globally, it is imperative that our industry becomes more aware and proactive in explaining, engaging and shaping the future of the industry and the global travel communities it encompasses.

That’s my place to live
Why do people choose to live in places that are becoming increasingly popular as tourist destinations? What brings them back to their places of origin after exploring the world? Is it simply a shared taste with tourists or something more meaningful? How do they see the future of these destinations for tourists, residents and themselves?
- Ms. Araceli Iranzo Founder of La Escuela Artesana de Mallorca
- Mr. Joaquin Pourque artisan soap maker and distiller - founder of Jabón de Mallorca
- Mr. José Cortés García Chef Finca Treurer
Panel discussion 1

Refreshing sustainable perspectives
The weather perspective:
Weather, often described simply as 'nice', plays a crucial role in shaping tourism. It influences where and when people travel, but its deeper connection to ecosystems and sustainable development is often overlooked. Is chasing sunny skies still the best motivation for travel, or will we come to appreciate the beauty of rain and other weather phenomena as an integral part of our holiday experience? As we look to the future, adapting to changing weather patterns may redefine how we choose and enjoy our destinations.
- Dr. Mario Picazo Soriano, Presenter and weather expert, United States of America and Spain
The integrating perspective:
Architecture and landscape can create spaces that encourage interaction, community and identity by systemic integration. A systemic design practice as a central part of destination design and in resonance with the environment, may provide economic and experiential strategies for the future of sustainable tourism.
- Mr. Klaus Klaas Loenhart, CEO and Head of Institute for Architecture and Landscape at Graz University of Technology

Pre-competitive cooperation is an important concept in the field of sustainability, guiding successful actions and partnerships. Destinations need to understand the key elements that are important for private sector actors embarking on this journey and enable their actions.
